Camp Dates
June 17-20
2011
Dates

The dates for the camp are Friday, June 17, 2011, through Monday, June 20, 2011.  We start at 7:30 a.m. each day.

Activities
Friday will be a day of sheepherding for the herding breeds (others are welcome to attend , but only the herding dogs will be worked on sheep).  Saturday and Sunday are full days: introduction of young dogs to birds, obedience training, conformation fun matches, and agility with Bridget McKnight.  Monday is an opportunity for the water spaniel folks to go off site and train with field trainer Pat Nolan.  Those attending on Monday who are not interested in retriever games may stay at the farm for another obedience session and more herding.

Who may attend?
Anyone who has a Pyr shep, an Irish water spaniel, or is interested in learning more about those breeds, is welcome to attend.  If you are a Pyr shep or IWS person and your training buddy has another breed, they may come with you and work their dogs, too.  If your dog is strictly a pet and you don't want to train, please do attend anyway and hang out with a bunch of marvelous people, and bring your dog for the walks and the socializing.

What should I bring?
Please bring a crate and/or ex pens for your dogs so that they can be confined in a shady place when they're not working.  Bring their water buckets, and favorite toys and treats, too.  Bring a chair for yourself, and plenty of sunscreen and bug spray.  The biting gnats are fierce and annoying.  You will want to prepare for rain and heat.  Old shoes for your walks are recommended (it is a farm, after all!). And bring your bathing suit - we are trying very hard to get the pool ready in time for the camp.

Where to stay?
Here are a few motels listed in order from closest to farthest from the farm.  The closest is within ten minutes' drive, the farthest is 15-20 minutes away.
Sleep Inn        301.766.9449/800.424.6423
Red Roof Inn   301.582.3500/800.733.7663
Motel 6           301.582.4445
Clarion            301.733.5100 (has 3 rooms designated for pets)
I have called each of these motels to check that they are still taking pets.  There are many more motels in the area, please contact me if you have problems getting a place.

Other options:  You may park your RV or travel trailer here, or pitch a tent.  There is limited electrical hook-up.  You are welcome to use the indoor facilities if you are camping here.  You could also bring an inflatable bed and "camp" indoors.
Recommended local campground: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park 301.223.7117

Keeping dogs cool
We will have a large tent for the agility area, and one for the conformation/obedience area as well.  There will be wading pools at the various locations.  Please keep your dog in the shade, and don't hesitate to wet him down before working him.

Other things to do!
For the rabid shoppers, the outlet mall is ten minutes away.
We are one mile from historic Antietam battlefield - a fascinating place to visit and learn about.
Foxcross pottery is 1/2 mile away and open on Saturdays- beautiful handmade pottery and well worth a visit
Ask Jarl about his radio control sailboats - he would love to show them to you - or ask him about his landspeed racing motorcycles.

We still have cute tee shirts available from this year's camp.
Lots of sizes still availabe, Small - 4X ($15 each)
Here's the design (on a purple tee):
