Pyrenean Shepherds are a fascinating, rustic breed. Their appeal lies in their compact, athletic size coupled with keen working ability and an endearing devotion to their owners.

Where working beautifully comes naturally
My first dog was a German Shepherd. I was indoctrinated that "utility" - a dog with drive to work, and the bid-ability that makes them trainable, was paramount in a breed. Combined with my affection for devoted, demonstrative, prefer-one-person dogs, and admiration for versatility, and I was preprogrammed to fall in love with Pyrenean Shepherds. This small herding dog from France seemed custom made for me - loyal, driven, bright, fun to train, agile, and cute too! I also honor their historical value - we are preserving a bit of the heritage of the Pyrenean people. My Pyr sheps are farm dogs, and in their daily lives express an echo of the old Pyrenees.

Today the Pyr Shep is becoming sought after as a show dog and topflight agility dog. They continue to shine as, first and foremost, a great companion. For dogsport enthusiasts, Pyr sheps have the speed, agility, athleticism, intelligence, and trainability to make the game a blast.
The Pyr Shep temperament is not for everyone. They are malleable, responsive dogs, and require thoughtful and proper handling during their socialization.

I love to talk with people about whether a Pyr Shep might be right for them! We seldom have puppies available, but always welcome inquiries, and visitors with appointments. Please email Betty at Madcap@hughes.net.
